AI & Grading Disclaimer
Slabscope produces AI-generated grade estimates and routing recommendations for trading cards. This page explains, in plain language, what those outputs are — and what they aren't.
01Estimates, not grades
Every grade Slabscope returns is an estimate produced by a vision AI model. It is not a certified grade and has no standing with PSA, CGC, BGS, TAG, AGS, ACE, or any other grading company. The actual grade your card receives, if you submit it, may be higher, lower, or the same as our prediction.
02No affiliation with grading companies
Slabscope is independent of every grading company we reference. We are not authorised, endorsed, sponsored by, or affiliated with PSA, CGC, BGS, TAG, AGS, ACE, or any other grader. Any company name used in our reports is descriptive — to identify the third party — and does not imply endorsement.
03Not financial advice
Slabscope reports include estimated raw values, estimated graded values, expected-value (EV) calculations, and routing recommendations. These are illustrative figures derived from third-party market data (eBay sold listings, public comp sources) combined with our predicted grade.
Estimates may be stale, incomplete, or wrong. Markets move, fees change, and grading-service throughput varies. Slabscope does not provide investment, financial, or tax advice. Decisions to purchase, hold, submit, or sell a card are your own. Do your own research and, where appropriate, consult a qualified professional.
04Photo quality matters
Our predictions depend on the quality of the photos you upload. Bad lighting, glare, shallow depth of field, or partial views can cause the model to miss defects or over-call grades. To protect users from over-confident outputs:
- If only one side is provided, the model caps the predicted grade at PSA 9 and flags the report as preliminary.
- If the image is blurry, glare-heavy, or partially cropped, the model caps confidence and may cap the grade at PSA 8.
- If we cannot identify a card at all, the report tells you instead of guessing.
For the most accurate result, photograph both sides under flat, even, indirect light, with the card filling most of the frame and the camera parallel to the card.
05Authenticity flags are not authentication
Slabscope may flag a card as "possibly counterfeit" based on visible signals (off-register printing, wrong colour tone, suspicious font weight). This is not a forensic authentication service. A card that we do not flag may still be counterfeit; a card that we flag may still be genuine. For high-value cards, use a professional authenticator.
06Cross-grader EV depends on assumptions
Our cross-grader EV calculations assume current published fees, typical market premiums for graded slabs, and ~$20 round-trip shipping. They do not include rush charges, insurance upgrades, re-holder fees, taxes, or your time. Treat EV figures as decision-support, not a guaranteed outcome.
07No warranty of accuracy
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Slabscope makes no warranty that an AI-predicted grade will match the grade a card subsequently receives, or that estimated values will match realised sale prices. See our Terms of Service for the full liability framework.
08Public accuracy stats
We publish a rolling 90-day measure of how close our predictions land to actual outcomes at /accuracy, based on user-reported real grades. This is the best source of truth on our current performance, and it's updated daily.
